Super Bowl LIII

Setting the odds for the Super Bowl is the biggest decision North American oddsmakers have to make each year. Last year online and casino Super Bowl wagers were estimated to top $4.7 billion, so the books need to get these odds right. This year, some opening lines out of Las Vegas had the Los Angeles Rams set as 1-point favourites against the New England Patriots. However, within a matter of minutes, enough action was coming in on the Pats that they were forced to flip that line to New England -1.

From there, bettors continued to pile on the Patriots, moving the line all the way up to its current listing at Patriots -2.5 (-120). As of Wednesday afternoon more than 75 percent of point spread bettors are banking on the Pats to cover. With the total, almost 60 percent of bettors think the game will finish under 58 points.

The Patriots, who make their third straight trip to the Super Bowl, head into this matchup having won and covered each of their last three games overall, scoring at least 37 points in each of those games. So it looks like they’re peaking at the right time. It’s the same story for the Rams. They have won and covered in four straight, but it’s their defence that is really stepping up. L.A. is allowing just 21.5 points per game over the current winning streak.
